9/10Bushnell Forge
New to bino tech? We explain it all here...The Bushnell Forge binoculars offer incredible clarity and colour rendition, useful for viewing fine details important for identifying species or even specific individuals.
Found at the top of Bushnell's range of binoculars, the optical quality is seriously impressive, due in part to the ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lenses. The Forge are therefore the perfect choice for anyone whose priority is bright, sharp images.
An 8x42 configuration makes them suitable for almost all nature-watching and monitoring purposes, providing an ideal balance between the brightness and magnification. Keeping track of small, fast-moving animals is made much easier with the super wide 426ft FOV.
A lockable diopter ring is included on the right eye piece, which is very user-friendly. It allows for the focus to be adjusted accordingly to correct for any difference in visual acuity between your left and right eyes.
Bushnell’s exclusive ‘EXO barrier’ technology has been applied to each lens. This protective coating repels water, oil, dust and debris. It also encourages the beading of water - a helpful feature that allows the lenses to be cleared very quickly in rainy conditions.
The rubber eye cup positioning can be adjusted using the twist-up design. The long 19mm eye-relief is an essential feature which ensures eyeglass wearers are able to view a full, unobstructed image.
The weight, 875g can get a little heavy when using for extended periods, however Bushnell have counteracted this by including a free binocular harness - a very nice touch. An ergonomic design with thumb indents and a textured rubber armour ensure the Forges are very comfortable in the hand.
IPX7 waterproofing and fog-proofing allows for confident use in the field, no matter how extreme the weather.
The Forge 8x42 binoculars are covered by a 20 year warranty period.
The Forge binoculars are at the top of the Bushnell range of binoculars. For mid-level binoculars please see the Prime, and for a slightly more compact high-end pair please see the Engage EDX.

Build quality
Having been designed to be hard-wearing, the Forge binoculars are rated as IPX7 waterproof. This means the binoculars are protected when immersed in up to 1m depth of water, for up to 30 minutes.
The binocular body itself has a sturdy and fairly weighty construction, with a durable rubber armour. They have been intuitively designed for ease of use and sit very comfortably in the hand. The objective lens caps are connected to the binocular body itself, ensuring confident usage with no concern of loss.
These binoculars are built to last, hence are covered by Bushnell's ‘Ironclad Warranty’ lasting an impressive 20 years.
Bushnell Forge Included Items:
Bushnell Forge Binocular Optics
Magnification: 8x Objective diameter: 42mm
Prism Glass: BaK-4 ED glass: Yes FOV (ft@1000yds): 426
Extra-low dispersion (ED) Prime glass is used in the lenses in order to prevent chromatic aberration - fuzziness and colour fringing around the edge of the object. The glass also ensures true, realistic colours and contrast even in non-optimal light conditions. When tested in the field, we found the optics to be comparable with significantly more expensive binoculars.
The Field of View (FOV) at 1000 yards is an impressive 426ft. This is particularly helpful for monitoring fast-moving and/or small animals such as birds or rapidly moving mammals.
Multiple different coatings are utilised to perfect the optical quality. The Forge binoculars include the following:
