8.0/10Bushnell Prime
New to bino tech? We explain it all here...The Bushnell Prime binoculars are an excellent choice for anyone wanting a reliable and robust pair of binoculars that are still budget-friendly.
An 8x42 configuration is ideal for almost all nature-watching and monitoring purposes, providing an ideal balance between brightness and magnification.
The Primes include all of the essential features required for a good pair of binoculars, but without some of the extra ‘bells and whistles’ of more expensive options like the Bushnell Engage EDX and Forge.
This includes a smooth, user-friendly central focussing wheel that makes it easy to find the perfect, sharp focus point. They also offer long eye-relief (24mm), a helpful feature to ensure eyeglass wearers are able to view a full, unobstructed image. The twist-up rubber eyecups allow the user to adjust the position accordingly.
The Prime binoculars include Bushnell’s exclusive ‘EXO barrier’ technology - a protective lens coating that repels water, oil, dust and debris. This hydrophobic coating encourages the beading of water - a helpful feature that allows the lenses to be cleared very quickly in rainy conditions.
IPX7 waterproofing and fog-proofing allows for confident use in the field, no matter how extreme the weather.
The Prime 8x42 binoculars are covered by a 20 year warranty period.
The Prime binoculars are mid-range affordable binoculars. For a higher range pair with a good close focus please see the Engage EDX. For the highest image quality please take a look at the Forge, which are at the top of Bushnell's range.

Build quality
The binocular body is sturdy and relatively compact for a full-sized binocular, weighing 660g. The weight combined with the ergonomic design makes for comfortable use, even for extended periods.
Built-in objective lens covers are a very nice addition allowing confident usage without the risk of losing them in the field.
The Prime binoculars are IPX7 waterproof and sealed with O-rings, meaning they can be survive being submerged in 1m deep water for up to 30 minutes (although this is not recommended!).
These binoculars are built to last, hence are covered by Bushnell's ‘Ironclad Warranty’ lasting an impressive 20 years.
Bushnell Prime Included Items:
Bushnell Prime Binocular Optics
Magnification: 8x Objective diameter: 42mm
Prism Glass: BaK-4 ED glass: No FOV (ft@1000yds): 350
These 8x42 binoculars are suitable for most wildlife watching and monitoring purposes. This configuration is particularly effective for watching small and/or fast-moving animals such as birds and mammals.
Despite being one of Bushnell’s more entry-level options, the Primes perform very well optically. High-quality BaK-4 prisms produce clear, full images.
All lens surfaces in the Prime binoculars are ‘fully multi-coated’, meaning multiple layers of a specifically designed coating have been applied. This coating is anti-reflective, increases light transmission and improves overall image brightness.
