8.7/10Overview
The SpyPoint LM2 wireless camera trap is the latest LTE enabled trail camera in SpyPoint's affordable and versatile Link-Micro range.
The LM2 features an improved photo quality, an extended detection and flash distance and a new antenna to maximise signal strength in the filed. It utilises the same great LTE modem as its popular predecessor, the Link-Micro LTE.
It is entirely app-controlled using the SpyPoint Link app, allowing you to conveniently check images on-the-go, receive alert photos within 10-60 seconds after a trigger (depending on signal strength), and change settings from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
It can be powered using x8 AA batteries (we recommend Energizer Ultimate Lithiums) or SpyPoint's LIT-10 battery pack.
If you’re looking for a camera with a built-in solar panel and self-charging battery, check out the SpyPoint Link-Micro S.
The LM2 comes with a pre-activated SIM card on the O2 (Telefonica) network, which is also used by GiffGaff and Tesco Mobile. Please ensure there is O2 signal coverage in your area (O2 coverage checker).

Photo Quality:
Max res: 20MP Max photos per trigger: 2 photos
Trigger speed: about 0.4 seconds Recovery time: Approx. 60 seconds on instant transmission modeThe LM2 exclusively transmits photos and does not support video capture or transmission. Its design prioritizes delivering photos quickly, so transmitted images are compressed and smaller, while larger images are saved onto the SD card.
Nonetheless, it remains easy to determine what triggered the camera trap, whether it's a human intruder or a passing fox.

Speed and detection
Trigger speed: approx. 0.4s (photos) Recovery speed: Approx. 60 seconds on instant transmission mode
Detection range: approx. 90ft LED type: Low-Glow LEDsThe SpyPoint LM2 boasts a rapid 0.4-second trigger speed for photos. With 4G network speeds, it ensures swift transmission to the mySpyPoint cloud, typically within 10-20 seconds of capturing an image.
Recovery speeds depend on the transmission mode chosen. Immediate transmission after image capture takes 10-60 seconds, after which the camera is ready to capture another photo.
Alternatively, you can set the LM2 to transmit all images at specified intervals (e.g., every 2, 6, or 12 hours) for near-instant recovery speeds.
It is a highly sensitive trail camera with a great detection range. The app provides remote sensitivity adjustments for added convenience.

Build quality & batteries
Warranty: 2 years (through NatureSpy)
Batteries: 8x AA (Lithium strongly recommended) or LIT-10 battery packThe LM2 maintains a comparable battery life to its predecessor, but this depends on the camera's activity and number of transmissions. Continuous image transmissions every 10 minutes will significantly reduce battery life. However, with around 20-30 transmissions per day, one set of Lithium batteries can last approximately 2 months.
Limiting the number of transmissions or setting specific intervals for transmission (e.g., twice a day) will significantly extend the battery life.
-
Ease of use
Please note that activation of the LM2 wireless cameras may take 30 minutes to 48 hours.
Photos taken by the camera are automatically uploaded to the cloud and accessible through the SpyPoint Link app (available for iOS and Android) or myspypoint.com. You can set the app to notify your phone when a new photo is uploaded for real-time updates. The camera transmits only photos, not videos. It sends thumbnail-size images and saves high-resolution images onto a microSD card (a 16GB microSD is included unless you choose the 32GB upgrade).
There is a free monthly option that allows viewing 100 pictures each month. If you require more than photos per month, you can choose from SpyPoint's affordable paid plans. Unlike other wireless cameras, there are no ongoing costs to network providers. Therefore, if you only need 100 pictures per month, there is no additional cost with this wireless camera.
Plan options and prices are listed in US Dollars.
- Free plan = 100 photos/month
- $5 per month (or $4/month if paid annually) = 250 photos/month
- $10 per month (or $7/month if paid annually) = 1000 photos/month
- $15 per month (or $10/month if paid annually) = unlimited photos/month

SpyPoint
SpyPoint camera traps have been around for a while now, and have developed year on year. They are a Canadian-based company, and all of their trail cameras are tested in the harsh Canadian winter before release.
There are currently several models of SpyPoint cameras, with a release of 4 cameras in summer 2019, all of which fit in at different places in the market. SpyPoint has also turned in the last few years to specialise in cellular camera traps that send photos in near-real time. This culminated with the release of the innovative Link-Micro in May 2019.
The non-wireless trail cameras are:
- Force 20 – an entry level, affordable little camera with strong features and excellent night-time video
- Force Dark – a mid-market camera trap with industry-leading trigger times (particularly for photos) and selectable low-glow or no-glow LED options
- Solar Dark – the only camera trap with a solar panel built in. Potentially unlimited battery life, especially when paired with an initial set of lithium batteries. The same trigger speeds as the Force Dark too and control over low-glow or no-glow LEDs
The wireless trail cameras, all using the Telefonica (o2, GiffGaff, Tesco Mobile etc) network and locked to the SIM Card they are provided with, are:
- Link Micro – an innovative, small and affordable wireless trail camera. No frills but a great way to access an app-based, 4G wireless trail camera
- Link-Micro-S – as above but with built-in solar panel and Lithium battery pack
- Link-Dark – best suited for security applications thanks to its no-glow LEDs. 4G and fast photo transmission, with the fastest trigger speeds available.
- Link-S – Essentially a Link-Dark with a solar panel on the top – perfect if the camera needs to be left in-situ for long periods of time
The wireless cameras also come with free 28 days of initial unlimited use. If you don’t choose one of the paid plans after that point, it reverts to a free 100 photos a month plan. They are all controlled via an app available on iOS and Android, and also online via myspypoint.com.
The trigger speeds of these cameras are all really good, and battery life is great. If they’re some of the main things that you are looking for, then SpyPoint might be for you.
It also feels like there is a bit more going on in a SpyPoint camera – they feel cleverer than the average. The detection zones are broken up into 5 areas to ensure a better result, screens display countdown timers when you turn the camera on, and fast release clips help you take the camera off it’s backing quickly and conveniently.
All come with a 2 year UK warranty when bought through NatureSpy, as an official UK dealer. If you need to ask any questions at all about SpyPoint or any other camera trap we do, just get in touch.
