Why choose NatureSpy?

Browning Defender

The Browning Defender camera trap has 20MP photos, 1080p HD video, a fast trigger speed and a host of other features. It’s main feature however is that it can be connected to via the Browning Defender App (Android/iOS).

This means that when within Bluetooth range of the camera, you just need to get out your smartphone and connect to the camera. Once connected, you can switch to WiFi mode and then change any settings, review and download images and videos, and even get a live view from the camera so you can check its set up correctly. Range varies depending on terrain. A clear path will mean approx. 30-40ft bluetooth range.

This is ideal for situations when physically accessing the camera is difficult or not feasible – i.e. nest monitoring, camera in a difficult to reach place, mounting up trees/large posts for security etc.

The camera is also supplied with a Browning 16GB microSD card and adapter, as well as 4x CR123 Lithium batteries – so everything you need to get going is in the box.

The Browning Defender in particular delivers fantastic quality video footage, day and night. If you’re looking for a camera to take great videos, this might well be the one for you. There are two choices for video resolution  – ‘Ultra’ and ‘High’. Ultra is uncompressed 1080p HD video. The quality is undoubtedly amazing, but the file sizes are very large – over 400MB per video. Choosing ‘High’ resolution means the same 1080p and video quality is almost as good, but the file sizes are much more manageable.

Another bonus is that daytime videos are 60fps – and night time at 30fps. This means smooth footage, in addition to the brilliant quality.

The LEDs are low glow and Browning use a slightly different, long-range infrared LED with this camera, meaning just 4 are required an and have an impressive max. range of about 120ft. The camera has a setting which allows you to tweak the flash based on your requirements; Normal or Long Range. The Browning Defender camera trap can also detect movement out to about 60ft.

An exciting innovation from Browning is ‘Smart IR Video’ – this means that the camera will continue recording video footage for up to 2 minutes during the daytime and up to 20 seconds at night as long as the wildlife/people continue to move in front of the camera. So if you’re worried about video length vs. battery life, this feature takes that concern off your hands.

Another useful feature on the Defender is being able to select how many images you want the camera to take per trigger. You can select either Multi-shot, which takes up to 8 images at 3 second intervals, or Rapid Fire, which can take up to 8 images at 0.3 seconds apart.

The Browning Defender is powered by 4x CR123 batteries (4 batteries provided), and has the ability to use an SD card up to 128GB. We’re not sure if you’ll ever need that amount unless using ‘Ultra’ video resolution, but it’s nice to have the option of using a 64GB card for long-term monitoring, or if you don’t want to keep deleting captures from your SD card. The Defender also has a SD management option which will overwrite the oldest recordings/photos once the SD card fills.

The Browning Defender 850 is supplied with a 2 year warranty when bought through NatureSpy. Browning are an American company; but if anything goes wrong with your camera, we’ll deal with all warranty returns here in the UK. We’ll never ask you to send your Browning camera trap direct to the manufacturer.

Browning Trail Cameras are an American-based camera trap manufacturer with a growing reputation. They’ve innovated fast and won loyal customers across the pond – and its easy to see why. We’re proud to be a main UK distributor.

The current range from Browning builds on their successes, pushing the boundaries and improving every time. The Recon Force Edge and Spec Ops Edge have some of the best video quality we’ve ever seen on a camera trap; comfortably beating the previous leaders, Bushnell.

Browning say that you can watch their 1080p footage back on a 60 inch TV and not lose clarity – and we can see what they mean. Add excellent video trigger times (which are always slower than photo triggers) of about 0.3 seconds, and you can start to see why we’re so excited about these trail cameras. You can see videos for the product you’re viewing on the ‘Example video’ tab or in the ‘Our Review’ section.

We’re currently using Browning trail cameras on a number of NatureSpy projects – in Croatia (bear, wolf and lynx), Northern France (wolf and lynx) and of course the North York Moors (pine marten). We also work with a number of large environmental organisations and charities around the world also using Browning trail cameras.

Photo quality is also generally good, though differs throughout the range. Trigger times again are strong. All models also have Multi-Shot and Rapid-Fire modes, which give you control and choice over what you want your camera to do when taking photos.

Many models also have built-in, forward facing colour screens and a host of smart features and simple set ups to make camera trapping that bit easier and convenient. Add this all together with the excellent price and it can be difficult to look beyond a Browning wildlife camera trap.

And as NatureSpy are an official UK distributor, you’re fully covered by our 2 year warranty and if in the unlikely event something goes wrong, we’ll deal with it entirely in the UK.

If you need to have a chat about Browning or any other camera trap, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

    Excellent camera

An absolutely fantastic camera, really does what it says, I have fixed mine 6 metres up a tree opposite a owl nest box, the footage that I have already received is unbelievable. Very easy to set up and use, just 2 criticism s one it will download to my phone but wont share to my gallery, two no idea on battery life left will only find out when camera stops.
Otherwise I’m very pleased and would recommend it to anyone who needs a remote camera for an area which is inaccessible on a daily basis

Initial use since purchase in December 2017 has been to record activity around two nests built by Wrens in the apex of garden pagoda which requires renovation. Not wanting to disturb any night roosting the camera has so far provided so interesting stills and videos in total darkness. Confirming one and likely two birds are roosting nightly it has also confirmed an amazing timetable with bird arriving within minutes of previous arrival times and approx 50mins after total outside darkness. No leaving was recorded as they were likely lightning fast where arrival included flying around and clinging upside down to the roof. Would be 5 stars but for limited Bluetooth and WiFi and cluncky app, and I had thought live view meant in darkness via infra red too. Tip. When connected to WiFi and the app reverts back to, apparently, not connected at all, close the app and reopen and all is, in fact, connected. Don’t go thro the hassle of reconnecting via bt then onto WiFi all over again.
